(tips
for taking care of your house and birds, and more)

to top
Q. Which methods
of payment do you accept?

Express, Discover, Money Orders, Cashier's Checks, Business Checks,
Personal Checks, Official Purchase Orders (Requires
prior approval/credit inquiry), and good old fashioned cash

Q. Who do you use to ship
the houses?
A. We ship
via UPS and the Post Office. We will ship the most cost-effective way
possible for you. We may also ship via your special request.
Back
to top
Q. Can I have an
item shipped via air freight?
A. Yes, you must however, call to
verify and provide your specifics.
Back
to top
Q. What
ships faster, kits or completed houses?
A. If the item is
in stock, it doesn't matter if it's completed or in kit form. They take
the same amount of time. However, if we don't have an item, completed
houses are usually the fastest to leave the shop. Kits are built as
needed, but they have to fit into the production schedule. If you're
in a really big hurry to get a house in a tree, you may want to call
to see what is available at that time.
Back
to top
Q. Where
did you come up with those peculiar birdhouse names?
A. All
of our birdhouses and feeders are named after Washington rivers and
raftable creeks.
Back

Q.
How
fast can I have an item shipped to me?
A. It depends, items in stock will be shipped
immediately while others may have to be built. Non-stock houses are
built frequently and will be shipped as soon as they are completed.

Q. I
want to order several kits, how much notice do you need?
A. We need
as much notice as you can possibly give. The minute you decide to order,
you should call and place your order. Prepaid orders are processed "1st
come, 1st served". Please
keep in mind...spring and summer months are extremely busy and most
summer projects are held in...you guessed it...summer. We wouldn't want
your project delayed, so get those orders in early.
Back
to top
Q. Can I offer a suggestion
for a new model?
A. You certainly can, we always welcome new
ideas and special requests. (Minimum charge for
special orders is $20.00)

Q. How
do I hang my birdhouse?
A.
All "Flat Back" birdhouses have 1 or
more holes drilled in the back to allow simple nail hanging. The "hanging"
birdhouses and feeders can be suspended using a metal clothes hanger,
and the "overhanging" roof
homes are designed to sit on a flat surface or pole.

Q. When
and how do I clean or remove the nest from my birdhouse?
A. Anytime after the young have left is
when you should remove the vacant
nest. To do this, all you need is an old clothes hanger.

House Placement
Try to hang your house in a natural
environment away from feeders.
If it gets real hot in the summer, face the hole north, or away from the
sun. Also, regardless of where you live, try to place your house where
it will get some shade for part of the day.
Place houses at least 15' away from one another (for territorial birds)
Stay somewhat close to the above hole sizing chart

Tips for hanging your birdhouse
For "Flat
Back" models...
Pound a nail about 2-3 inches long into your tree or other vertical wood
surface and place the hole in the back of the house
over the nail. ( be careful and wear eye protection
)
For "Overhanging Roof" models...
Place it wherever your heart desires as long as it is a flat horizontal
surface.
( try to follow the tips on
"House Placement" &
"Hole Sizing" )

Tips
for cleaning your birdhouses
After the young have left the nest is the time to clean the house. (It's
possible to have more than 1 family use the home in the same season)
For birdhouses that have removable panels, remove the screws, remove the
panel and take out the nest. Use a light bleach and water solution to
rinse the house out. Replace the panel and screws, and hang it up where
it was. (It must have been a good location if you're
cleaning the nest out )
For houses that don't have a removable panel, take
an ordinary metal clothes hanger and bend the hook narrow enough to fit
through the entrance hole (Be really careful
not to cut yourself and wear leather gloves). Hold
the birdhouse hole-side down, insert the hook end of the hanger, and fish
out the nest. Rinse and place as stated above. (This
is way easier than it sounds)
